UPDATED: Google Preparing Nexus 7 Tablet

Perhaps following in the footsteps of Microsoft Surface, Google has also announced their own tablet, the Nexus 7. It appears that they may also think that their team of manufacturers aren't doing enough in the war against the iPad, created by Apple Inc.

This tablet will be reportedly manufactured by Asus, who also created the Transformer line up of tablets.

The rumoured specifications are as follows:

  • Tegra 3 Quad-core processor @ 1.3 GHz
  • 1280 x 800 resolution
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB or 16GB Internal storage
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • NFC for Google Wallet & Android Beam
Rumoured pricing for this will be $209 for the 8GB model, and $259 for the 16GB model - putting it in direct competition with the Amazon Kindle Fire and the outgoing Blackberry Playbook.

The release of Android 4.1 possibly further fragments the Android ecosystem - possibly the largest weakness of Android.

UPDATE (June 29, 2012):

You can pre-order the Nexus 7 here!

According to the ASUS Chairman, it was pure torture to produce this product at such a low price, in only 4 months. ASUS employees all over the world were working 24 hours to produce this tablet!
