Toys "R" Us to launch kids' tablet


Toys "R" Us is planing to launch an Android tablet aimed for kids and they will be available for pre-order staring on October 21st. This tablet is designed solely for children and it to be sold exclusively at Toy "R" Us. The company said on Monday that the tablet, dubbed Tabeo, will retail for $149.99 U.S and will pre-loaded with child-friendly apps and integrated controls that allow parents to customize levels of internet access for every family member.





According to a brief list of specs, the tablet will feature a 7-inch capacitive TFT LCD display with 16 million colours an a resolution of 800 x 480. It will also have a "Child friendly" interface and a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 SoC and 1 GB of RAM. It will also be shipped with 4 GB internal memory with a microSD expansion slot for up to an additional 32 GB of storage space. Some other features would include HDMI output, a bumper to protect it from littles kids dropping it, 802.11 b/g/n WIFI connectivity, Adobe Flash support, and parental controls to help parents block inappropriate content.



The tablet will ship with Android 4.0 but the "child friendly" interface will most likely hide all signs of the Android OS. The tablet will not be getting its apps from Google's Play store but instead it will use its own app store with 7 000 free apps selected by the Tabeo team to ensure that all the apps are child friendly. Some of the 20 pre-installed apps would include popular games such as Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Cut the Rope, Temple Run, 100 Floors, Collapse!, Tiki Golf, Tiki Cart 3D and many more. there will also be educational apps, several entertainment apps, and books such as Little Red Riding Hood.
